Patrick Battiston

Patrick Battison was a defender who played significant roles in the 1978, 1982, and 1986 World Cup campaigns for France. He was also a member of Les Bleus (The Blues) that won the 1984 European Football Championship. But he was not a part of the “Magic Square,” which was made up by Jean Tigana, Alain Giresse, Michel Platini and Luis Fernandez. They were all midfielders.

Olympique de Marseille

Olympique de Marseille is the only French football club that won the most prestigious club competition in Europe. The Marseillais became Champions League winners after a 1-0 victory over AC Milan at the Olympic Stadium of Munich on May 26, 1993.

Stephane Guivarc’h won the 1998 World Cup championship but without shining during the competition. He was injured in the first game against South Africa and only came back during the eighth-final against Paraguay. He was fielded as striker in the final against Brazil but missed three successive scoring opportunities during the game. His consistent lackluster performance weighed heavily for the rest of his career at club and national team level.

Zinedine Zidane was born on the 23rd of June, 1972 in Marseille and was raised in the district of La Castellane. His parents were from Kabylia, a region in the northern part of Algeria. He has a dual French and Algerian citizenship.

Thierry Henry scored 51 goals in 123 appearances for France, making him the top scorer for the French national football team. He became a World Cup winner in 1998 and is currently the only French footballer to have played in four World Cups. The previous record for most goals scored for France was held by Michel Platini at 41.
